Paying by card in absentify is still the quickest way to start. See Upgrade. Use Microsoft Marketplace if your company wants to pay for software through its Microsoft account.
When this makes sense
- Your company pays for software through its Microsoft account, and Microsoft invoices you for absentify. With an Enterprise Agreement, absentify is a line on your regular Microsoft invoice in most countries. With a Microsoft Customer Agreement, Microsoft sends a separate invoice within 24 hours of the purchase and of each renewal. With a pay-as-you-go account, you get a separate Marketplace invoice. See Microsoft’s billing and invoicing overview.
- You do not need to set up absentify as a new vendor. You pay Microsoft.
- absentify is sold under the Standard Contract for Microsoft Marketplace without changes. If your legal team has approved this contract before, there is nothing new to review. See Microsoft’s procurement overview.
- You buy software through your Microsoft partner (CSP). All plans are available to partners. After a purchase through a partner, contact our support team and we activate absentify with you.
- Larger organizations can ask us for a private offer with individual pricing or terms.
What is different from card payment
There is no free trial on Microsoft Marketplace. Try absentify on the Free plan first.
If you buy through a Microsoft partner, your partner manages seats, plan and cancellation, and our support team activates the purchase with you.
Before you start
Who can buy- The buyer needs a work or school account and a payment method on the Microsoft billing account: a credit card in the billing country, or invoice payment if Microsoft approved the account. The term Invoice then appears on the billing profile.
- To buy in the Azure portal instead, you need the Owner or Contributor role on an Azure subscription where Marketplace purchases are allowed.
- Microsoft does not let you change the billing country after your first purchase.
- An absentify admin who signs in to the workspace. If the workspace is connected to a Microsoft organization (Entra ID tenant), it must be the organization that bought absentify.
- No running card subscription in the workspace. This includes a card subscription you canceled that is still active until the end of its period. If you pay by card today, read Switch from card payment before you buy.
- No other Microsoft subscription for absentify in the same workspace. A workspace has one at a time.
Buy and activate
1
Open the listing
Open absentify on Microsoft Marketplace and sign in with your work or school account.
2
Choose a plan and seats
Mini, Essentials and Plus each come as a monthly plan and a yearly plan. Choose the billing cycle carefully: after the purchase, Microsoft lets you switch between Mini, Essentials and Plus, but not between monthly and yearly. Enter the number of seats. absentify adjusts the seat count to your users every night.
3
Complete the purchase
Pay with the payment method of your Microsoft billing account. If you buy in the Azure portal, the purchase appears there under your SaaS resources.
4
Select Configure
On the order confirmation page, select Configure. In the Azure portal, select Configure account now. You can also use the link in Microsoft’s confirmation email, or open My Account > My Orders. This step is mandatory. Without it, absentify does not know about your purchase.
5
Sign in to absentify
absentify opens Activate your Microsoft subscription. Sign in with an admin account of your workspace if absentify asks you to. If you are not an admin, you see A workspace admin has to finish this. Send the setup link to an admin.
6
Check your purchase
Under Your purchase, check Plan, Seats, Billing cycle, Purchased by and Workspace. Make sure the workspace is the one you want.
7
Agree and activate
Select I agree to automatic seat updates (required), then select Activate. absentify shows Subscription activated. Select Open billing settings. The card Managed by Microsoft shows your subscription. You also find it under Settings > Billing.
If the activation page shows a message
Manage your subscription
Under Settings > Billing, the card Managed by Microsoft shows the plan, seats, billing cycle and status. The status is Active, Waiting for activation, Suspended or Canceled. Use Manage in Microsoft 365 admin center or Manage in Teams admin center to open Microsoft’s subscription management. See Billing.Seats
Every user in your workspace counts as a seat, including inactive and archived users. Every night, absentify sets the seat count of your Microsoft subscription to the number of users. It raises and lowers it. These changes affect your Microsoft charges. If you change the seat count in Microsoft yourself, the next nightly update sets it back to the number of users. If you bought through a Microsoft partner, absentify cannot change the seat count. Ask your partner to change it. To lower the count, delete users you no longer need. Archiving does not free a seat. Deleting is permanent and removes the user’s data, so export anything you need first.Plan and billing cycle
Change the plan in Microsoft. Microsoft only lets you switch to a plan with the same billing cycle: a monthly plan stays monthly and a yearly plan stays yearly. To move between monthly and yearly, contact our support team. absentify picks up plan changes automatically. The plan cards under Settings > Upgrade are not shown while Microsoft manages your subscription.Invoices
absentify does not show Microsoft invoices. Under Settings > Billing, the card Invoices and payment has two buttons:- View invoices in Microsoft 365 admin center
- Open Azure portal subscriptions, if you bought with an Azure subscription
Payment problems
If Microsoft cannot collect your payment, absentify shows Subscription suspended by Microsoft. The subscription stays suspended for 30 days and is canceled after that. Pay the open amount in the Microsoft 365 admin center or the Azure portal, wherever you bought absentify, to reactivate it. View invoices in Microsoft 365 admin center opens it.Cancel your subscription
To stop at the end of the current term, turn off auto-renew (recurring billing) for the subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center or the Azure portal, wherever you bought absentify. The subscription then ends on its end date, and your workspace returns to the Free plan. If you cancel the subscription instead, it ends at once and your workspace returns to the Free plan right away. Microsoft refunds a cancellation in full only within 72 hours after the purchase. After that, contact our support team. See the plan feature matrix for what the Free plan includes. If you delete your company account in absentify, absentify cancels the Microsoft subscription only when Microsoft allows customers to do so. Otherwise, cancel it in Microsoft yourself. See Delete account.Switch from card payment
You cannot activate a Microsoft purchase while your workspace has a card subscription. Contact our support team (chat or support@absentify.com) before you buy. We move your workspace to the Microsoft subscription without a gap or a double charge. To go back from Microsoft to card payment, turn off auto-renew in Microsoft. When the term has ended, upgrade by card on the Upgrade page. To switch earlier, contact our support team.FAQ
