# Buy absentify through Microsoft Marketplace

> Buy absentify on Microsoft Marketplace and pay through your Microsoft account: requirements, activation, seats, invoices, cancellation and common questions.

You can buy absentify on [Microsoft Marketplace](https://marketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/product/absentify1649267151463.absentify) (formerly Microsoft AppSource) instead of paying by card in absentify. Microsoft bills you. The plans are the same, and so are the prices in US dollars, euros, British pounds and Swiss francs.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Paying by card in absentify is still the quickest way to start. See [Upgrade](https://absentify.com/docs/en/roles/hr_admins/settings/upgrade.md). Use Microsoft Marketplace if your company wants to pay for software through its Microsoft account.

## When this makes sense

* Your company pays for software through its Microsoft account, and Microsoft invoices you for absentify. With an Enterprise Agreement, absentify is a line on your regular Microsoft invoice in most countries. With a Microsoft Customer Agreement, Microsoft sends a separate invoice within 24 hours of the purchase and of each renewal. With a pay-as-you-go account, you get a separate Marketplace invoice. See [Microsoft's billing and invoicing overview](https://learn.microsoft.com/marketplace/billing-invoicing).
* You do not need to set up absentify as a new vendor. You pay Microsoft.
* absentify is sold under the [Standard Contract for Microsoft Marketplace](https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2041178) without changes. If your legal team has approved this contract before, there is nothing new to review. See [Microsoft's procurement overview](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/procurement-overview).
* You buy software through your Microsoft partner (CSP). All plans are available to partners. After a purchase through a partner, contact our support team and we activate absentify with you.
* Larger organizations can ask us for a private offer with individual pricing or terms.

## What is different from card payment

| | Card payment in absentify | Microsoft Marketplace |
| - | - | - |
| Who bills you | Paddle, our payment provider | Microsoft |
| Plans | Mini, Essentials, Plus, Free | Mini, Essentials and Plus, each monthly or yearly |
| Prices | See the [pricing page](https://absentify.com/pricing) | The same per-user prices in USD, EUR, GBP and CHF. Other currencies are converted and can differ slightly |
| Add-ons | Not sold for current plans | None. The offer has only the six plans |
| Payment | Card, PayPal and more. Invoice for annual Essentials and Plus | Whatever your Microsoft billing account offers: card, or invoice if Microsoft approved your account |
| Seats | Counted from your users | Counted from your users and updated every night after you agree at activation. You cannot turn this off |
| Plan changes and cancellation | In absentify under **Settings > Upgrade** | In Microsoft, in the Microsoft 365 admin center or the Azure portal. The billing cycle stays as bought |

There is no free trial on Microsoft Marketplace. Try absentify on the Free plan first.

If you buy through a Microsoft partner, your partner manages seats, plan and cancellation, and our support team activates the purchase with you.

## Before you start

**Who can buy**

* The buyer needs a work or school account and a payment method on the Microsoft billing account: a credit card in the billing country, or invoice payment if Microsoft approved the account. The term **Invoice** then appears on the billing profile.
* To buy in the Azure portal instead, you need the Owner or Contributor role on an Azure subscription where Marketplace purchases are allowed.
* Microsoft does not let you change the billing country after your first purchase.

**What absentify needs**

* An absentify admin who signs in to the workspace. If the workspace is connected to a Microsoft organization (Entra ID tenant), it must be the organization that bought absentify.
* No running card subscription in the workspace. This includes a card subscription you canceled that is still active until the end of its period. If you pay by card today, read [Switch from card payment](#switch-from-card-payment) before you buy.
* No other Microsoft subscription for absentify in the same workspace. A workspace has one at a time.

## Buy and activate

**1. Open the listing**

Open absentify on [Microsoft Marketplace](https://marketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/product/absentify1649267151463.absentify) and sign in with your work or school account.

**2. Choose a plan and seats**

Mini, Essentials and Plus each come as a monthly plan and a yearly plan. Choose the billing cycle carefully: after the purchase, Microsoft lets you switch between Mini, Essentials and Plus, but not between monthly and yearly. Enter the number of seats. absentify adjusts the seat count to your users every night.

**3. Complete the purchase**

Pay with the payment method of your Microsoft billing account. If you buy in the Azure portal, the purchase appears there under your SaaS resources.

**4. Select Configure**

On the order confirmation page, select **Configure**. In the Azure portal, select **Configure account now**. You can also use the link in Microsoft's confirmation email, or open **My Account > My Orders**. This step is mandatory. Without it, absentify does not know about your purchase.

**5. Sign in to absentify**

absentify opens **Activate your Microsoft subscription**. Sign in with an admin account of your workspace if absentify asks you to. If you are not an admin, you see **A workspace admin has to finish this**. Send the setup link to an admin.

**6. Check your purchase**

Under **Your purchase**, check **Plan**, **Seats**, **Billing cycle**, **Purchased by** and **Workspace**. Make sure the workspace is the one you want.

**7. Agree and activate**

Select **I agree to automatic seat updates (required)**, then select **Activate**. absentify shows **Subscription activated**. Select **Open billing settings**. The card **Managed by Microsoft** shows your subscription. You also find it under **Settings > Billing**.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Microsoft starts billing at the purchase, even if you activate later. Finish **Configure** and the activation right away.

### If the activation page shows a message

| Message | What to do |
| - | - |
| **No purchase information** | The page was opened without the link from Microsoft. Open it again from your subscription on Microsoft Marketplace with **Configure**. |
| **Link invalid or expired** | Go back to your subscription on Microsoft Marketplace and select **Configure** again. |
| **A workspace admin has to finish this** | Send the setup link to an admin of the workspace. |
| **This purchase belongs to another organization** | Sign in to the workspace of the Microsoft organization that bought absentify, or contact support. |
| **This workspace already has a subscription** | The workspace has a card subscription. Microsoft already bills your purchase, so contact support right away. See [Switch from card payment](#switch-from-card-payment). |
| **This workspace already has a Microsoft subscription** | This new purchase is already billed. If you bought it directly from Microsoft by mistake, cancel it in Microsoft within 72 hours for a full refund. If you bought through a partner, ask your partner to cancel it. To change the plan, use the existing subscription. With automatic seat updates, seats already follow your users. To switch between monthly and yearly, contact support before you cancel anything. |
| **Already linked to another workspace** | The purchase belongs to a different absentify workspace. Sign in to that workspace or contact support. |
| **Plan not supported** | absentify cannot activate this Microsoft plan. Contact support. Microsoft may already be billing you, so review the purchase in Microsoft too. |
| **Automatic seat updates are unavailable** | Microsoft does not allow absentify to change the seat count for this purchase, so you cannot finish the setup yourself. Contact support. Microsoft may already be billing you, so review the purchase in Microsoft too. |

## Manage your subscription

Under **Settings > Billing**, the card **Managed by Microsoft** shows the plan, seats, billing cycle and status. The status is **Active**, **Waiting for activation**, **Suspended** or **Canceled**. Use **Manage in Microsoft 365 admin center** or **Manage in Teams admin center** to open Microsoft's subscription management. See [Billing](https://absentify.com/docs/en/roles/hr_admins/settings/billing.md#managed-by-microsoft).

### Seats

Every user in your workspace counts as a seat, including inactive and archived users. Every night, absentify sets the seat count of your Microsoft subscription to the number of users. It raises and lowers it. These changes affect your Microsoft charges. If you change the seat count in Microsoft yourself, the next nightly update sets it back to the number of users.

If you bought through a Microsoft partner, absentify cannot change the seat count. Ask your partner to change it.

To lower the count, [delete users](https://absentify.com/docs/en/roles/hr_admins/settings/users/manage_users.md#deleting-users) you no longer need. Archiving does not free a seat. Deleting is permanent and removes the user's data, so [export anything you need](https://absentify.com/docs/en/roles/hr_admins/settings/users/manage_users.md#exporting-user-data-before-deletion) first.

### Plan and billing cycle

Change the plan in Microsoft. Microsoft only lets you switch to a plan with the same billing cycle: a monthly plan stays monthly and a yearly plan stays yearly. To move between monthly and yearly, contact our [support team](https://absentify.com/docs/en/introduction.md#how-to-get-further-assistance). absentify picks up plan changes automatically. The plan cards under **Settings > Upgrade** are not shown while Microsoft manages your subscription.

### Invoices

absentify does not show Microsoft invoices. Under **Settings > Billing**, the card **Invoices and payment** has two buttons:

* **View invoices in Microsoft 365 admin center**
* **Open Azure portal subscriptions**, if you bought with an Azure subscription

### Payment problems

If Microsoft cannot collect your payment, absentify shows **Subscription suspended by Microsoft**. The subscription stays suspended for 30 days and is canceled after that. Pay the open amount in the Microsoft 365 admin center or the Azure portal, wherever you bought absentify, to reactivate it. **View invoices in Microsoft 365 admin center** opens it.

### Cancel your subscription

To stop at the end of the current term, turn off auto-renew (recurring billing) for the subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center or the Azure portal, wherever you bought absentify. The subscription then ends on its end date, and your workspace returns to the Free plan. If you cancel the subscription instead, it ends at once and your workspace returns to the Free plan right away. Microsoft refunds a cancellation in full only within 72 hours after the purchase. After that, contact our [support team](https://absentify.com/docs/en/introduction.md#how-to-get-further-assistance). See the [plan feature matrix](https://absentify.com/docs/en/roles/hr_admins/settings/plan-feature-matrix.md) for what the Free plan includes.

If you delete your company account in absentify, absentify cancels the Microsoft subscription only when Microsoft allows customers to do so. Otherwise, cancel it in Microsoft yourself. See [Delete account](https://absentify.com/docs/en/roles/hr_admins/settings/delete-account.md).

## Switch from card payment

You cannot activate a Microsoft purchase while your workspace has a card subscription. Contact our [support team](https://absentify.com/docs/en/introduction.md#how-to-get-further-assistance) (chat or [support@absentify.com](mailto:support@absentify.com)) before you buy. We move your workspace to the Microsoft subscription without a gap or a double charge.

To go back from Microsoft to card payment, turn off auto-renew in Microsoft. When the term has ended, upgrade by card on the [Upgrade](https://absentify.com/docs/en/roles/hr_admins/settings/upgrade.md) page. To switch earlier, contact our [support team](https://absentify.com/docs/en/introduction.md#how-to-get-further-assistance).

## FAQ

> [accordion] Are the prices the same as with card payment?
>
> Yes, in US dollars, euros, British pounds and Swiss francs. In other currencies, Microsoft converts the price, so the amount can differ slightly from the card checkout. See the [pricing page](https://absentify.com/pricing). Tax depends on your country and your Microsoft billing account.

> [accordion] Does the purchase count toward our Azure commitment (MACC)?
>
> Not at the moment. Only offers with the Azure benefit eligible badge count, and absentify's offer does not have it.

> [accordion] Can we buy through our Microsoft partner?
>
> Yes. All plans are available to Microsoft partners (CSP). absentify cannot activate a purchase through a partner on its own, so contact our [support team](https://absentify.com/docs/en/introduction.md#how-to-get-further-assistance) after the purchase and we set it up with you. Your partner manages seats, plan and cancellation.

> [accordion] Can we get a private offer?
>
> Yes, for larger organizations. A private offer can have individual pricing or terms. Contact our [support team](https://absentify.com/docs/en/introduction.md#how-to-get-further-assistance) and tell us your Microsoft organization. We prepare the offer and set up your workspace with you.

> [accordion] Can I pay by invoice?
>
> Only if Microsoft approved your billing account for invoice payment. Then the term **Invoice** appears on your billing profile. Otherwise Microsoft charges the credit card in your billing country. If you want an invoice from absentify instead, see [Pay by invoice](https://absentify.com/docs/en/roles/hr_admins/settings/upgrade.md#pay-by-invoice).

> [accordion] Who issues the invoice and handles tax?
>
> Microsoft. With an Enterprise Agreement, absentify is a line on your regular Microsoft invoice in most countries. With a Microsoft Customer Agreement, you get a separate invoice within 24 hours of the purchase and of each renewal. With a pay-as-you-go account, you get a separate Marketplace invoice from Microsoft. absentify does not issue invoices for Marketplace purchases. See [Payment processing](https://absentify.com/docs/en/payment/processing).

> [accordion] I bought absentify, but my workspace still shows the Free plan
>
> The purchase is not activated yet. Open the order confirmation page, the link in Microsoft's confirmation email, or **My Account > My Orders** on Microsoft Marketplace, and select **Configure** (in the Azure portal, **Configure account now**). If the subscription is already active, open it in the Microsoft 365 admin center or the Azure portal and open it on absentify's site from there. Then complete the steps in [Buy and activate](#buy-and-activate). If the activation page shows a message, find it in the table above. If you cannot find a link, contact our [support team](https://absentify.com/docs/en/introduction.md#how-to-get-further-assistance). Microsoft bills from the purchase, so do this soon.
